“You worship what you do not know; we worship what we know,” (John 4:22). Who is God? This is a question only a few people ask and even fewer know the answer! Ask anyone and many are lost for words and attempt to describe God instead. 'Oh, He is the Almighty God, He is the everlasting Father'. These words describe the character of God but not who God is This was exactly the state of the Samaritan woman who Jesus met at the well. “Our fathers worshipped here”, she says. But Jesus said to her, “you worship what ye know not”. Why? The revelation of who God is was not revealed to the Samaritans as at that time; but rather only to the Jews. Another time, Paul was preaching in Athens and saw that the people worshipped many gods. As a result they had put up an inscription, 'To the unknown God'. In other words, if there is any god we forgot to mention; this should cover for the god. And this is what a lot of people do even today! They believe in a Supreme Entity but they do not know anything of the Being they claim to be in awe of. So who is God? At JCF, God has shown us Himself so we know what we worship.
